Sure Start is an initiative funded by the government to improve provision of services for parents and pre-school children. MEWN Swansea have successfully obtained money from this initiative to set up:
•
Pre school play and support group for parents and children from black and ethnic minority communities.
•
Establish an information service on childcare issues in key minority languages to benefit the black and ethnic minority parents and children.
•
Provide capacity building training for black and ethnic minority parents and volunteers to run their own self help services.
•
A small toy library has been set up from where children can borrow toys. We also provide information in key minority languages on childcare issues, Social Services, Health Benefits and training in Basic Skills.
•
Mother and toddler group.
•
Hafod Playgroup.
•
Provide Cultural Diversity training for schools and organisations that work with children.
•
Arrange fun activities for children (0-4) trips, fun days, picnics, Tardis bus, balloon modelling, face painting, story telling and many more.
